Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life.

Rather, real meaning in life is when one begins to follow Christ as His disciple, learning of Him, spending time with Him in His Word, communing with Him in prayer, and in walking with Him in obedience to His commands.

So should these scriptures be a foundation for the meaning of life....

Another argument that being immortal would be sufficient to make ourlives insignificant is that persons who cannot die could not exhibitcertain virtues (Nussbaum 1989; Kass 2001). For instance, they couldnot promote justice of any important sort, be benevolent to anysignificant degree, or exhibit courage of any kind that matters, sincelife and death issues would not be at stake. Critics reply that evenif these virtues would not be possible, there are other virtues thatcould be. And of course it is not obvious that meaning-conferringjustice, benevolence and courage would not be possible if we wereimmortal, perhaps if we were not always aware that we could not die orif our indestructible souls could still be harmed by virtue of intensepain, frustrated ends, and repetitive lives.

What I mean by the "meaning of life", is the greater picture.

Though everyone has a purpose in life; it is just a matter of discovering what the purpose is.

~Alice Cooper, interview with Cal Fussman, 2008 August 2nd, for Esquire's January 2009 eighth annual Meaning of Life issue

To believe in immortality is one thing, but it is first needful to believe in life.

Is between these pendulums - the positive, the one that gives happiness and meaning, and the negative - that our lives are lived. And when we meditate about all that, we arrive at a diverse and disagreeing set of thoughts about the meaning and purpose of life.

Yes, the meaning of life, and the purpose of our lives.

This I Believe is an international organization engaging people in writing and sharing essays describing the core values that guide their daily lives. Over 125,000 of these essays, written by people from all walks of life, have been archived here on our website, heard on public radio, chronicled through our books, and featured in weekly podcasts. The project is based on the popular 1950s radio series of the same name hosted by Edward R. Murrow.

Of course, one might argue that a life would be meaningless if (oreven because) it were unhappy or immoral, particularly givenAristotelian conceptions of these disvalues. However, that is to posita synthetic, substantive relationship between the concepts, and is farfrom indicating that speaking of “meaning in life” isanalytically a matter of connoting ideas regarding happiness orrightness, which is what I am denying here. My point is that thequestion of what makes a life meaningful is conceptually distinct fromthe question of what makes a life happy or moral, even if it turns outthat the best answer to the question of meaning appeals to an answerto one of these other evaluative questions.

You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.

If talk about meaning in life is not by definition talk abouthappiness or rightness, then what is it about? There is as yet noconsensus in the field. One answer is that a meaningful life is onethat by definition has achieved choice-worthy purposes (Nielsen 1964)or involves satisfaction upon having done so (Hepburn 1965;Wohlgennant 1981). However, for such an analysis to clearly demarcatemeaningfulness from happiness, it would be useful to modify it toindicate which purposes are germane to the former. On thisscore, some suggest that conceptual candidates for grounding meaningare purposes that not only have a positive value, but also render alife coherent (Markus 2003), make it intelligible (Thomson 2003,8–13), or transcend animal nature (Levy 2005).

Frankl The meaning of life, defined by Victor E.

Even though this book is not yet considered a classic novel, it is still significant because it teaches readers about valuable lessons of friendship, demonstrates how to deal with difficult situations and understand the true meaning of life....

Lewis and Sigmund Freud Debate God, Love, Sex and the Meaning of Life

The latter problem also faces the alternative suggestion that talk of“life's meaning” is not necessarily about purposes, but israther just a matter of referring to goods that are qualitativelysuperior, worthy of love and devotion, and appropriately awed (Taylor1989, ch. 1). It is implausible to think that these criteria aresatisfied by subjectivist appeals to whatever choices one ends upmaking or to whichever desires happen to be strongest for a givenperson.

As the field reflects more on the sense of “life'smeaning,” it should not only try to ascertain in what respect itadmits of unity, but also try to differentiate the concept of life'smeaning from other, closely related ideas. For instance, the conceptof a worthwhile life is probably not identical to that of a meaningfulone (Baier 1997, ch. 5; Metz 2012). For instance, one would not beconceptually confused to claim that a meaningless life full of animalpleasures would be worth living. Furthermore, it seems that talk of a“meaningless life” does not simply connote the concept ofan absurd (Nagel 1970; Feinberg 1980), unreasonable (Baier 1997,ch. 5), futile (Trisel 2002), or wasted (Kamm 2003, 210–14)life.
