Thesis statement
Following the civil war, the US economy grew unprecedentedly mainly due to technology expansion and immigration (Brezina, 2005). On one hand, positive implications were notable such as growth of the industry and transport expansion propelled the United States into being the most technologically advanced superpower. On another hand, an outburst of health concerns ensued due to population explosion. This essay will outline these three major implications of industrialization in America between 1865 and 1920 in attempt to explain their effect on political, economic and social systems.
Outline
Growth of the US industry was reflected in various aspects such as raised living standards of Americans, introduction of new, cheaper and easily accessible consumer products and a shift from agriculture to industrialization. Growth of the industry was facilitated by a distinctive convergence of geographical, economic and social factors that made it possible for the nation to exploit its economies of scale (Olson, 2001). A notable outgrowth of industrialization after the civil war was the growth of the steel and iron industries that saw the US economy expand drastically. As a result, Americans were provided with employment opportunities thus living standards improved. Transportation also boomed with regions made easier to access by availability of improved roads, railway networks. According to Smith (2007), steam engines provided inexpensive movement of people and commodities. Railways and canals made it possible for factories to transport resources as well as increased peoples’ mobility. However, an unprecedented crowding of cities due to rural urban migration resulted to health problems as major cities became unsanitary and diseases-filled (Hillstrom & Hillstrom, 2007). Citizens became sick and the situation was advanced by unhealthy working conditions.
Most affected by growth of industries particularly steel and iron were pioneer land and factory owners and business entrepreneurs who accumulated immense wealth from the economic boom. Skilled workers were replaced by more efficient machines or cheaper unskilled. Children as young as ten were also affected as more and more industries employed readily available under age workers. Minority industrial workers were subjected to harsh working environments as they worked long hours and underpaid (Fitzgerald, 2000). Life expectancy of the lower class reduced drastically due to unsanitary living conditions. Meager rural dwellers were forced to move to urban centers in search of employment and better living as land became scarce consequently compelling countryside residents to relocate to cities to depend on periodic employment. The US government was also affected as changes in legislation, governing structures and processes were implemented.
Americans’ lives were greatly affected after the civil war in various ways. First, dominance of agriculture and culture of earning a living while working as a family mainly in rural areas was replaced by mechanization of industries and urban civilization. Movement of both people and goods became easier and thus, people migrated vastly breaking the nuclear social composition. Emergence of better roads, railways and canals allowed easier movement. Living standards were also improved by discovery of better sources of energy such as electricity and increased income distribution. New consumer goods were brought to the American market as well. The workplace environment moved indoors and the pace of work improved. Child labor ensued as children broke away from their traditional role and sought employment in factories. Growth in urban centers was accelerated by rural to urban migration resulting to overcrowding which in turn caused diseases-filled cities. Although negative effects were also exhibited, most of the implications of industrialization after the civil war were predominantly positive and propelled the nation into steady growth and development subsequently proving that proper embracing of scientific knowledge leads to a rewarding future.

In Pakistan Iqbal Massih, a very young person, was shot dead because of championed the cause of the children and campaigned against child labour.

After the Civil War, the United States became a much more industrialized society. Between 1865 and 1920, industrialization improved American life in many ways. However, industrialization also created problems forAmerican society. Consider events that took place after the Civil War and discuss ways that industrializationaffectedthe U.S. between 1865 and 1920.

I know it sounds obvious, but you really need to write about a topic you know very well. After the question, the Regents will offer you different options as to what you can write about (though you are not limited to their choices). For instance, if the essay is on "Technology Bringing Change," then choose what you can write the most on. To me, I would think you could write much more on the cotton gin than the elevator. The elevator might be easy, but the cotton gin offers you so much more to talk about concerning slavery and causes of the Civil War.
